[Excerpt from article] A piece of Beaumont is featured in a mini documentary series about French culture in Alberta. The first six episodes of the series, titled How to be French en Alberta, tells the stories of Francophones and Francophiles from around the province in short, 10-minute documentaries, using mostly French language with English subtitles.
“I hope that opens people’s eyes to who we are and the kinds of stories we have to tell, and the people that we are. I hope they find it interesting and human,” said director Marie-France Guerrette after the release on Aug. 9.
One of the stories is about Beaumont’s famous restaurant, Chartier, which has been turning heads around the province since completing one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns in Canadian history. Over the last year and a half, the restaurant has been a centre piece within the community for its rich cuisine based on traditional French-Canadian dishes and rustic feel.
“We love the story of Darren and Sylvia being Francophiles, so people who have learned French later in life, and the fact that they embrace the French culture of Beaumont, and made that the heart of this restaurant — it’s just so amazing,” Guerrette said. READ FULL ARTICLE
